Andy Morris 23rd Jan, 2019   0

AN ELDERLY man was beaten to the head with a stick in his own home on Tuesday morning (January 22).

Police were called to a house in Dunchurch Road shortly before 10am.

The man, who is in his 80s, was taken to hospital with injuries to his face and head, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are appealing for information about a ‘shooting stick’ – a combined walking stick and folding chair – which was used in the assault.

Andy Holloway from Rugby CID said: “We are extremely keen to speak to anyone who recognises the shooting stick as we believe it may have been stolen from a nearby property prior to the assault.

“We are also keen to speak to people who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time. Any information, no matter how small, could be significant to our investigation.”

A 32-year-old man from Rugby is in police custody having been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and section 18 wounding.

Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information should call Warwickshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 102 of January 22.
