A NEW door-to-door bus service has been launched for residents in rural areas around Rugby who struggle to access public transport.
The flexible Back & 4th Dial-a-Ride service, run by Warwickshire Rural Community Council (WRCC), collects passengers from home and takes them to their chosen destination.
WRCC chief executive Kim Slater said: “One of the first things many villages will complain about is a lack of a decent bus service.
“Ideally, villages would have a regular, timetabled bus service, but this doesn’t seem to be commercially sustainable and, in many cases, communities are being left to fend for themselves.
“We think that a tailored service can plug the gaps left when public bus services are withdrawn and provide a lifeline for people who might otherwise be isolated.”
Minibuses are fully wheelchair-accessible and have low-floor steps for ease of access.
The service will initially run from one of five zones around Rugby each weekday into destinations in and around Rugby town.
Concessionary bus passes are accepted, meaning free travel for pass holders. A return fare is £5 for all others. Journeys must be pre-booked.
