A HOLLYWOOD hit turned Broadway smash is heading for the Rugby stage.
Interesting Theatre’s production of Legally Blonde opens next week.
It tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who attempts to win back her ex-boyfriend by getting a law degree.
The role was made famous by Reese Witherspoon in the film and its sequel – but unlike her, this production’s lead actor Gracey Spring was not a natural blonde.
Gracey soon solved the problem by bravely popping in to the salon and having her dark hair dyed bright blonde.
She said: “It was quite an empowering experience, but I was a bit nervous about how it might turn out.
“Plus, I’m a schoolteacher – so I was very fearful about how my colleagues and the students would react!
“I needn’t have worried though. My hairdresser did a great job – and everyone at school loved the transformation.
“And they say blondes have more fun. So the only question now is, do I stay this colour – or go back to auburn?
“I’ve still not decided.”
Director Alan Pavis said: “Elle’s a wonderful inspirational character who relies on her sunny personality and positive attitude to make her way through life.
“She’s adorable and funny – and I’ve loved having her as part of my life for the past couple of months of rehearsals.”
He said he would be disappointed if anyone watched the show without smiling from start to finish.
He added: “Legally Blonde has the brightest and bubbliest score, the most high-energy dance routines, and possibly the silliest and most hilarious script every written for the stage.
“It’s a fluffy, fabulous show, and I’ve been blessed with an incredibly talented team both on stage and behind the scenes.
“We can’t wait for opening night. It’s going to be a big pink blast of brilliance!”
The show opens for a six-performance run at the Avon Valley School Theatre on Tuesday March 19.
