A TEENAGE entrepreneur has pumped up his fledgling tyre-writing business by winning a local ‘Dragons Den’ competition.
Daniel Spence, 18, impressed judges with his business Ludicrous, which personalises car tyres by writing on them using a die-cutter.
He took away the top prize of £500 from the competition, which was organised by The Caraires Recruitment Consultancy.
Daniel, from Napton, impressed the ‘dragons’ with his commercial acumen, planning and research, and passion for his product.
The £500 prize will allow Daniel to inflate his business by setting up a website and investing in bulk-buying materials in order to keep his costs down. He also hopes to upgrade to a laser cutter when funds allow.
The judging panel at Caraires Does Dragons Den comprised Karen Shuter from Exact Logistics, David Murray from InXpress, Graeme Whittall from Magma Chartered Accounts, Anjli Kotak from Soak.com and Rachel Baxter-Smith from IChemE.
They listened to six different pitches presented by young people and teams from the Warwickshire area.
The event was part of a month-long project for the company to engage with the local area.
Nicola Carrouché, one of the directors of Caraires, said: “Last year we interviewed a number of candidates who had some great business ideas but did not want to risk their own money to bring them to life.
“We hope this opportunity has provided a genuine learning experience to all of the contestants, but in particular I hope the cash prize will make a real difference to Daniel and his business.”
