Rugby hospital radio reaching more ears than ever before

MUSIC to their ears – volunteers at St Cross Hospital’s radio station are reaching more patients than ever before.

Rugby Hospital Radio has installed a new sound system which means visitors to the Outpatients department can listen in to the station’s mix of music, comedy, drama, religious content and news.

The station was previously only available in the Inpatient wards.

Rugby Hospital Radio chairman Mike O’Connor said he hoped the new audience would enjoy the station’s specially-selected songs.

He said: “I am very proud of the effort our volunteers have put into setting up the sound systems and the bespoke music shows to be played out of the speakers.

“We really hope the music puts a smile on the people of Rugby’s faces when they are anxious or bored while in waiting areas around the hospital.”

St Cross manager Juliet Starkey said: “We were delighted to support with the extension of this important service. The volunteers at the radio station provide such a valuable service to our patients and now more people than ever can be entertained by the station.”

The Rugby Hospital Radio charity produces over 20 hours of live programming each week from its purpose-built studio at the hospital. Volunteers regularly visit patients on wards to ask for their music requests.
