VOLUNTEERS and donations are needed to help the Rugby branch of Cats Protection give love, care and attention to cats and kittens in need.
The town’s branch of the charity, which was resurrected by a group of feline lovers after initially closing down last November, rescues, cares for and rehomes cats and kittens – including 11-week-old Ophelia.
Branch co-ordinator Anne Barnard said: “Ophelia is an absolutely gorgeous kitten but she’s unfortunately been diagnosed with distichiasis, a condition where the eyelashes grow on the wrong part of the eyelid, causing painful irritation on the surface of the eye.
“Ophelia is receiving veterinary treatment and has to have eye drops every day.
“When she’s four months old vets will know if the condition has corrected itself or whether she’ll need surgery.”
The branch is run by a small group of volunteers, while cats and kittens are cared for by volunteer fosterers in purpose-built pens in their garden or in a spare room.
Anne said: “We have had so many poor mums and their kittens needing our help recently, all in need of love and care. Many of the mums aren’t much more than kittens themselves.
“If you can spare just a couple of pounds, or whatever you can, to help with their vet fees, food, litter, bedding and toys to make their stay with us that bit more comfortable, we – and the cats and kittens – would be so grateful.”

The branch is also looking for more volunteers – including fosterers, a social media officer, ‘lost and found’ volunteers to help reunite lost cats with their owners, a DIY expert to help with maintenance, and a fundraising events organiser.
