Open garden event raises hundreds for nursing and health charities

AN OPEN garden event at a Rugby care home has raised £400 for a scheme which distributes funds to nursing and health charities.

Anya Court Care Home welcomed 77 visitors into its gardens for a donation in aid of the Warwickshire National Open Gardens Scheme.

They enjoyed a cream tea in the award-winning gardens, which include a fairy tale forest area, a greenhouse, an outdoor boules court, a chicken coop and a water feature with a fish pond.

The care home, which was awarded Best Dementia Garden at the 2016 National Dementia Care Awards, is the first in Warwickshire to open its gardens for the scheme.

Resident Amy Cooke, 90 said: “It was lovely to see so many people strolling around the garden and I enjoyed chatting to quite a few about the future plans we have been making for it.”

Anya Court customer relationship manager Karen Handley said: “It was lovely to see so many people enjoying our garden – which was looking its absolute best, with the judging for our annual Hallmark in Bloom competition having taken place just a few days beforehand.

“The physical and mental health benefits of gardening have been well researched and documented, and the residents here at Anya Court are passionate about their garden.”
