Saddling up for Lutterworth Big Bike Ride

HUNDREDS of cyclists are gearing up for an annual challenge which has raised £25,000 for charity over the last seven years.

The eighth Lutterworth Big Bike Ride will set off from Misterton Hall on Sunday (August 18), with a choice of four routes ranging from 11 to 67 miles.

The longer route has been extended from the previous 62 miles to take riders through the Langtons beyond Market Harborough to Eyebrook Reservoir.

Peter Osborn of Lutterworth Rotary Club, which organises the event, said last year’s event attracted over 600 riders, at least half of whom cycled over 60 miles.

He added: “The routes are selected to follow quieter country lanes in the beautiful surroundings of rural Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

“The 39 and 67 mile routes also have the distinction of running directly through the Naseby battlefield site and many sections follow the National Cycle Network.”

Individuals, families and teams representing local businesses and clubs are all welcome.

Entry costs £13 (£15 on the day) per adult and £5 for under-16s, including a hog roast or vegetarian alternative when riders complete the circuit and arrive back at Misterton Hall. Visit www.EntryCentral.com to enter in advance.

Funds raised will go to Epilepsy Action, Rotary Disabled Sports and other charities in the UK and overseas.
