Lutterworth Big Bike Ride raises thousands for charity

HUNDREDS of cyclists saddled up for an annual challenge which has raised £25,000 for charity over the last seven years.

Over 450 cyclists set off from Misterton Hall for the eighth annual Lutterworth Big Bike Ride on Sunday (August 18).

They took a choice of four routes ranging from 11 to 67 miles – including a new longer route which has been extended from the previous 62 miles to take riders through the Langtons beyond Market Harborough to Eyebrook Reservoir.

Peter Osborn of Lutterworth Rotary Club, which organises the event, said: “The routes are selected to follow quieter country lanes in the beautiful surroundings of rural Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

“The 39 and 67 mile routes also have the distinction of running directly through the Naseby battlefield site and many sections follow the National Cycle Network.”

Over 200 riders completed the 67 mile route, with a further 100 covering 39 miles.

After completing their rides, cyclists were welcomed back to Misterton Hall for drinks, ice-cream and a Hog Roast provided by sponsor Neil Green Catering.

Organisers hope to have raised around £5,000 for Epilepsy Action, Rotary Disabled Sports and other Rotary-supported charities at home and abroad.
