Seven-year record smashed at Viridian Daventry Triathlon

Rugby Editorial 16th Sep, 2019   0

RECORDS were smashed at the eighth Viridian Daventry Triathlon recently, including a new-fastest time on the women’s course.

The event pulled in over 300 triathletes, of which Sophie Kirk from Ful-onTri managed to break a seven-year record.

Her time of 1:03:55 was enough to scoop the ladies overall prize by racing home over a minute faster than the previous record holder in 2012, following a 400m swim, a 20k local bike ride and a 5k run towards the finish.

Jack Bond took home the men’s prize, crossing the line in 55:32, while Nuneaton Triathlon Club won the Viridian Gold Team category for a third-successive year.

Team JAK completed the line up of prize winners, after coming home fastest in the team relay race.

Rugby Triathlon Club race director Matt Hayward commented on the success of the afternoon, and said: “What a great way to mark the eighth triathlon in Daventry with a new course record.

“It’s inspiring to see so many people of all standards competing in this race.”
