A ‘CONSUMMATE professional’ from Rugby who is training to be a quantity surveyor has been given a national award.
Alice Stewardson has been named the south’s Most Promising Trainee Quantity Surveyor at the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Southern Young Achiever Awards.
Alice, a former Ashlawn School student, received the accolade for her exceptional performance on key projects and for her career progression.
Alice was one of four young people recognised for their success at a Covid-secure ceremony hosted by Winter Olympics Gold Medal winner Amy Williams MBE.
She is a final year student at Birmingham University, studying part-time for a BSC in Quantity Surveying while working for Danaher & Walsh in Loughborough as a trainee quantity surveyor.
A CECA spokesperson said: “Alice has consistently exceeded expectations within the business, acting as lead quantity surveyor on a wide variety of schemes, including highways works, bridgeworks, car parks, drainage, infrastructure and public realm works.
“Throughout her degree studies, she has consistently produced outstanding work and her dissertation has been submitted to the internationally leading peer-reviewed journal Building Research and Information.”
Alongside her core work activities, Alice promotes positive mental health and wellbeing and, as a trained Mental Health First Aider, acts as a confidential first point of contact for colleagues who are experiencing mental health concerns.
Samantha Barratt, CECA Southern Chair, said: “Alice exudes passion and enthusiasm for her work and is a consummate professional who can be trusted to complete a job to a high degree of quality with utmost client care.
“As an industry, we need to attract talented people like Alice because they will play a key role in building the infrastructure needed by our nation to create a low carbon, sustainable economy.
“Civil engineering provides young women and men with exciting, well-paid and diverse career opportunities and we hope that the achievements of our award winners will inspire students to find out more.”
The CECA Southern Young Achiever Awards are presented annually in recognition of exceptional performance, with each winner receiving a trophy and cheque for £500.
