MAJOR investment from four global businesses at Magna Park has been welcomed as “a significant boost for the local economy”.

Retail giant Amazon has become the latest big business set to take on storage and distribution space at the park near Lutterworth.

GLP, the company that owns Magna Park, has confirmed the online retail giant has secured two units, totalling more than 1million square feet, at the logistics hub.

Amazon joins other recent leasings at Magna Park including healthcare distribution company Movianto, JD.com, and logistics specialist Whistl.

Collectively, the four blue chip businesses could create up to 1,600 new jobs.

The news has been welcomed by leader of Harborugh District Council Phil King, who said it signalled “significant investment into the district.”

“This announcement shows that the Harborough district continues to be a pull for major businesses with exceptionally strong credentials,” said Coun King.

“This represents significant investment into the district which will create a diverse range of jobs for local workers and benefit wider communities.

“The district’s central location in the country makes it attractive, with excellent links for businesses, and our Invest in Harborough agenda continues to champion the district’s investment potential.”

Gwyn Stubbings, planning director at GLP,, was equally delighted.

“The four new units, built speculatively in 2020, extend to 1.3million sq ft and will be occupied by JD.Com; Whistl; Movianto and Amazon.

“This is a very significant milestone for the next phase of Magna Park and demonstrates the continued commercial and market attractiveness of Magna Park to internationally-renowned businesses.

“We look forward to delivering further economic investment and job creation at Magna Park and within the broader Harborough District in the coming months.”
