Hospice charity improves website accessibility

A HOSPICE charity in Warwickshire has made its website easier to access for people with visual and audio impairments, and those who speak English as a second language or not at all.

The Myton Hospices has added a new website tool as part of its commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The Recite Me assistive toolbar on the website includes screen reading functionality, multiple reading aids, customisable styling options, and an on-demand live translation feature for more than 100 languages.

The charity says the more inclusive website is essential to support over 20 per cent of the population who may encounter barriers when exploring the Myton website due to disability, learning difficulty, visual impairment or speaking English as a second language.

Myton’s Director of Community and Business Development, David Pratt, welcomed the arrival of the new software.

He said: “As part of our diversity and inclusion strategy, Myton has a commitment to being a more accessible organisation.

“And this fabulous new Recite Me software for the website is an important development, vital for our non-English speakers and those with visual or hearing impairments.

“It’s a really clever tool that makes the screen easier to read, changes the format and background colours and even reads out the text in a different language – of which there are over 100 to choose from – we hope it will make a huge difference to our users.”
