Police seek vintage Rover linked to fraud investigation

Rugby Editorial 14th Oct, 2021   0

CLASSIC car enthusiasts are being asked to keep their eyes out for a vintage Rover which is linked to an ongoing fraud investigation.

Detectives from Leicestershire Police are trying to locate a 1960 Rover P5, a rear-wheel drive car with a three-litre engine.

In September 2020, an investigation into car insurance fraud involving classic cars began and in August this year an appeal was issued to trace three vehicles, including the Rover.

One of those mentioned, a blue Ford MK1 Granada series 1 XL, was subsequently found in London – but the Rover has not been located.

Although the car was originally beige in colour, police believe the car has been restored and is now grey.

As part of the investigation, three men – two aged 44 and one aged 34 – and two women, aged 35 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of causing fraud by false representation. They were later released under investigation.

Investigating officer Det Cons Natasha Perkins said: “I am appealing directly to classic car enthusiasts to help trace the whereabouts of this vehicle. If you know where it is or have seen it listed for sale anywhere, then please get in touch.

“Any information you have, no matter how insignificant you think it is, could help us locate the car and in turn assist with the wider investigation.”
