Donation will help Rugby's talking newspaper speak more clearly

A NEWSPAPER for blind people in Rugby has received a donation of £1,000 from the team at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Rugby.

The Rugby and District Talking Newspaper produces a weekly digital audio memory stick of local news for blind and partially sighted listeners.

Each weekly edition includes the local news along with the weather forecast, roadworks affecting pavement access, and a wide-ranging magazine section containing general interest items across a broad range of subjects.

The donation from the Amazon team will go towards buying new memory sticks and delivery pouches, replacing the existing over-used stock, and four new remote recorders to enable continued improvements to audio quality.

Phil Arkell, Chair of The Rugby and District Talking Newspaper, said: “I want to say a big thank you to the Amazon team for this wonderful donation. It is this sort of generosity that enables us to continue improving the standards of our work for the visually impaired members of the Rugby community.”

Gayner Coulson, Site Leader at Amazon in Rugby, said: “It’s a privilege to make this donation to The Rugby and District Talking Newspaper, a charity that provides an invaluable service to the blind and partially sighted. We’re pleased to lend a helping hand with this donation.”

Shaun Evans Bent, who nominated Rugby and District Talking Newspaper for donation, said: “The newspaper is a great resource for the blind community in the Rugby area and I’m really pleased Amazon could support them with this donation.”

The Rugby and District Talking Newspaper received the donation as part of Amazon’s programme to support communities around its UK sites.
