WHERE there’s a will, there’s a way of raising money for a Warwickshire hospice charity during Make a Will Week.
The Myton Hospices is urging people to sign up to its Make a Will Week initiative and take advantage of the discounted cost of making a will in aid of a good local cause.
The charity, which cares for people living with a terminal illness and their families across Coventry and Warwickshire, has teamed up with solicitors in the region who are giving up their time to write or update wills for Myton’s supporters.
And all they ask in return is for a donation to the Hospices – a recommended £80 for a single will and £160 for a couple – although people can donate more should they wish.
A Myton spokesperson said: “Writing a Will is one of those things people regularly put off until tomorrow – either because they think they don’t need one or are worried about the cost.
“Make a Will Week is a fantastic way to not only support The Myton Hospices, but to make sure your wishes are carried out when you’re gone and that the people and causes you care about are still supported.”
Myton supporters Dane and Eileen Mooney, who took part in Myton’s Make a Will Week last year, said: “Although we haven’t used Myton’s services ourselves, we recognise how important it is to help sustain such a facility within our community for those who need it, and you never know what the future holds.
“We had been meaning to update our Wills for some time and the Make a Will Week provided us with an opportunity to do just that, and support our favourite local charity at the same time.”
The charity, which runs hospices in Rugby, Warwick and Coventry, has to raise £7.8million of its £10.5million budget this year to continue providing services free of charge, relying on donations and support from communities to do so.
Despite its fund-raising activities having been hampered by the pandemic, last year Myton supported 1,400 people and their families in hospices, via patient and family support services, and in the community through Myton at Home.
