Oddballs Foundation takes life-saving message to Rugby students

Rugby Editorial 25th May, 2022   0

AN IMPORTANT message raising awareness of testicular cancer has been taken to a Rugby secondary school.

The Oddballs Foundation – famous for producing brightly coloured boxer shorts – delivered an assembly to Year 10 students at Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College.

Year 10 was chosen as the students, who are aged between 14-15, fall into the age group which is most affected by the cancer.

Every year around 2,300 men in the UK are diagnosed with testicular cancer – the most common type of cancer to affect men aged 15-49.

One of the Foundation’s key aims is to raise awareness, as testicular cancer is one of the most treatable types of cancer – meaning early detection is important.

Headteacher Alison Davies said: “This was an unusual topic for an assembly but the message is really important and could save someone’s life. I am pleased that our Year 10 students have had opportunity to learn about testicular cancer and, more importantly, how it can be detected and treated.”
