A HEAT resilient herb and fruit garden has been created in Rugby – in honour of The Queen
Transition Town Rugby were keen to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee as The Queen wanted – by promoting the environment.
And they rose to to the challenge by creating the garden at the Pleasance in Church Street opposite the Squirrel Inn.
The garden consists of three large, raised beds which can cope with higher urban temperatures, which can be five degrees hotter than the suburbs and rural locations.
The beds will enable the plants to survive and be shared by residents, as well as raising them up making the food more accessible to people of all abilities.
The project was funded by Warwickshire County Council’s Greenshoots, and Rugby Borough Council donated the land for the project.
It was formally opened by Rugby mayor Carolyn Watson-Merritt.
