DETECTIVES are seeking witnesses to a fatal collision which took place on the motorway near Lutterworth on Wednesday (September 7).

At around 3.25pm, a red Nissan Micra collided with a barrier on the northbound carriageway of the M1, between junctions 20 and 21.

Emergency crews attended the scene but the driver – a man in his 20s – was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both sides of the carriageway were closed while the incident was dealt with.

Detectives investigating the incident want to speak to anyone who saw or has dashcam footage of the car prior to the collision.

DC Anna Thorpe from Leicestershire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We have already spoken to a few people who saw the collision, but I am keen to speak to anyone who saw the red Micra travelling along the M1 before the incident occurred.

“If you saw the vehicle or were travelling along that stretch of the M1 shortly before 3.25pm and have a dashcam, please take a look to see if you have captured anything that could be of use to our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Leicestershire Police on 101, quoting crime reference 22*522013, or visit www.leics.police.uk to report online.
