FOOTBALL - Valley edge out Easington to maintain unbeaten start

CAINE Elliott’s goal on the stroke of half time helped Rugby Town to a narrow 1-0 win against Easington Sports.

Town were far from their best on the night, but Elliott’s neat finish five minutes into first half added-time was still enough to extend their unbeaten start in the UCL campaign to eight matches.

Valley sit second in the United Counties League Premier Division South table, one point behind leaders Newport Pagnell Town with two games in hand.

Rugby started well as Elliott saw a low shot well saved by Sports keeper Adam Doyle before Ryan Seal lifted an effort over the crossbar.

And the home side came forward again soon after when Dan Summerfield poked a shot wide from Elliott’s pass before the latter headed onto the roof of the net.

However, Rugby finally made the breakthrough five minutes into first-half injury time as Elliott produced a clinical low finish past Doyle from Tom Fielding’s flicked pass.

Madundo Semahimbo had two early chances in the second period before Josh Thomas clipped the outside of the post and Seal fired a good opportunity wide.

Rugby are next in action away at Wellingborough Town on Saturday, October 8 with kick-off at 3pm at the Dog and Duck Ground.
