Record number of Warwickshire children offered places at preferred secondary schools

A RECORD number of Warwickshire children have been offered one of their top three secondary school choices today (Wednesday March 1).

Today is National Offer Day, when Year 6 children across the country learn which secondary school they will attend for the 2023-2024 academic year.

This year, 6,720 Warwickshire children applied for a secondary place by the application deadline of October 31 – less than one per cent fewer than the previous year.

Of those, over 80 per cent have been offered a place at their first-choice school.

Over 14 per cent were offered a place at another of their school choices – meaning over 94 per cent have been offered a place at one of their top three preferred schools.

Parents and carers who applied online will today receive an email, or can check their online parent portal, to get details of their school offer and instructions on what to do next. Letters to remaining applicants have been posted.

Warwickshire County Council (WCC) education spokeswoman Coun Kam Kaur said: “We have many excellent schools across the county, and they continue to be popular with families both from within Warwickshire and those living outside it. We look forward to welcoming our new secondary school children starting in September.”

The council has produced a series of videos to help families make their school applications, and has held online webinars where parents and carers can ask questions of the admissions team – all of which are available to watch on WCC’s YouTube channel.

The deadline for Warwickshire parents to respond to their secondary school offer is March 15. Visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/admissions for more information.
