Guides group are happy campers thanks to donation

HAPPY campers at a Guides group in Rugby are looking forward to their first camping trip thanks to a donation from a housebuilder.

The 1st Houlton Guides received £600 from Redrow Midlands’ Community Fund.

Guide leaders wanted to take the girls on more trips to explore and learn more about nature, but they needed camping equipment – which will now be funded by the donation.

Since its launch last year, the 1st Houlton Guides has signed up 19 girls aged between 10 and 14. The unit, which encourages the girls to explore things they love and do things they have never done before, relies solely on subscription fees and donations to run the club and host activities.

Elaine Cartwright, Sales Director for Redrow Midlands – which is currently building new homes in Houlton – said: “Houlton 1st Guides are a new unit, and we are pleased that we can help them grow as a group as well as raise awareness for all the fantastic work they do for young girls in the thriving community at Houlton.

“We are so excited to hear all about their camping trip and we hope they have a fantastic time.”
