Warwickshire residents urged to jump in the saddle this May

JUMP in the saddle, feel better, help the environment and save money is the May message to residents in Warwickshire.

Warwickshire County Council is supporting Love to Ride’s Bike Month Challenge, which aims to get businesses, communities and individuals to take up cycling for work, health and leisure.

The council is emphasising the benefits to cycling, including reducing fuel costs, improving physical and mental wellbeing, and benefiting the environment.

And residents who use the Love to Ride app to log their bike rides during May could be in with a chance to win prizes, including cash.

The council is also supporting businesses to draft their own active travel plans and arranging free active travel events such as maintenance sessions, security bike markings and training sessions.

Mark Ryder, the council’s strategic director for communities, said: “The benefits of active travel, particularly travelling by bike, are huge, both for the individual and for our wider environment.

“We are committed to supporting residents to realise that they can start their active travel adventure by switching just one car journey every week to an active alternative such as cycling, and we hope that the improving weather, longer days and the Bike Month Challenge with Love to Ride will offer residents a fun and engaging way to get into cycling and encourage their friends, family and colleagues to do the same.”
