OVER a thousand motorbikes roared into Rugby town centre on Sunday (May 21) to open this year’s Rugby Bikefest.
Bikers showed off their rides. They were joined by thousands of visitors who spent the day watching the Extreme Bike Battle stunt show, visiting bike stalls and displays, enjoying all the fun of the fairground, and tucking into street food from around the world.
Handball Alley headlined the Sue Garaghty Squirrel Stage, which was named in memory of the pub’s former owner. They also rocked out to a host of local bands who performed on open-air stages in Market Place and Church Street – the latter of which was named the Sue Garaghty Squirrel Stage in memory of the pub’s former owner who passed away last year.
The event was organised by Rugby First in conjunction with local motorcycling groups.
Rugby First Business and Stakeholder Manager Linda Lowne said: “I was delighted with how the day went and it was fantastic to see the town centre so busy. It was an excellent, very well attended event and the atmosphere was amazing – not to mention the weather.
“The increased footfall will have provided a real boost to the town centre economy and initial feedback from visitors, stall holders and businesses has been excellent.
“I would like to thank all those businesses and visitors who supported the festival, but would also like to extend a special thank you to the local bike groups and musicians for their invaluable contribution to the success of the event.”
