Public consultation launched ahead of cuts to housing support for vulnerable Warwickshire residents

CUTS to housing support for vulnerable people in Warwickshire have prompted a public consultation.

Warwickshire County Council (WCC) is seeking the views of residents about how housing related support services will be offered in the future, ahead of a £1million budget cut from April 2025.

The services support people with vulnerabilities and additional needs to gain or maintain a tenancy and live independently, and help prevent homelessness.

These services help people aged 16 and over to maintain independence, good health, and overall well-being, ensure their safety, budget effectively, understand tenancy agreements, facilitate participation in training or education, and be employed.

In February 2023, WCC announced that the budget for housing related support services would reduce by £1million from April 2025.

A WCC spokesperson said: “WCC is undertaking this consultation to re-design these services to become more efficient and effective within a reduced budget, while retaining clear focus on those people in the greatest need and those whose support will prevent them needing care services.

“The aim of this consultation is to inform Warwickshire residents about the proposals to redesign services and to ask for their views.”

Coun Margaret Bell, the council’s spokeswoman for adult social care and health, said: “We must be able to offer the right services to the right people at the right time so it’s crucial that we hear from anyone interested in these services in order to determine if our consultation proposals are right for people.

“We want to engage with as many people and organisations as possible to help shape services that reflect our communities right across the county. We’re keen to hear from anyone who has experienced the services including friends, family members and professionals. We also want to hear from public, private and voluntary organisations who have an interest in contributing to the redesign process.”

The consultation runs until August 11. Visit https://tinyurl.com/4u6xfkdc to take part.
