AN ECLECTIC group of Rugby artists are preparing a ‘creative feast for the eyes’ during this year’s Warwickshire Open Studios initiative.
The Alexander Arts, a town centre arts hub at the site of the former Alexandra Arms pub, will exhibit a range of artwork and crafts by 20 artists from the Rugby Artists and Makers group over the next two weekends.
The artists will take over all areas of the venue – including the Old Brewery, the ‘Silver Shed’ and the Pavilion as well as a marquee in the garden – to showcase their original paintings, illustrations, glass, embroidery, jewellery and textiles.
On the Sunday mornings, artist Tamsen Flack will demonstrate eco printing, and in the afternoons Jessica Hartshorn will offer free hands-on crafts and draw-a-long activities for families.
Chris Pegler from the Alexander Arts said: “Open studios are a great opportunity to meet the artists, learn how work is made and see demonstrations whilst purchasing unique gifts or to treat yourself.
“Last year was such a fun event for both the artists and visitors. This year we will be bigger and we look forward to meeting visitors from across Warwickshire and beyond.”
The event is free to attend, and a cafe will be serving drinks and cake.
The launch event takes place on Thursday (June 22) from 2pm, to be opened by Mayor Maggie O’Rourke.
Opening hours are 10am-4pm on Friday (June 23) to Sunday (June 25) and Friday June 30 to Sunday July 2, with extended 2pm-8pm opening on Thursday June 29.
This year’s Warwickshire Open Studios will see over 400 artists and makers taking part at 143 venues across Warwickshire and Coventry.
Other Rugby venues include Art in Dunchurch, featuring a further 20 local artists and studios. Visit www.warwickshireopenstudios.org/summer for more information.
