A ‘CAPTIVATING’ South African singer who has made her home in Rugby has been crowned the winner of the town’s annual talent contest.

Lizelle Harrison, who performs under the stage name Just Li, won the judges’ vote at the final of Rugby’s Got Talent 2023 at the Benn Hall.

Fellow singers Millie Maddams and Thea Watson were named joint runners-up.

Head judge Mike Folly, from organisers The Rotary Club of Rugby Dunsmore, said this year’s competition featured the most talented set of performers ever.

He added: “It was a real privilege to listen and help this cast of performers who made it almost impossible to select one act in preference to all the others. It was so close!

“Everyone, both semi-finalists and finalists, could happily entertain an audience and will have gained something special from putting themselves through this experience. It creates everlasting memories which will encourage all involved to develop their musical potential to the maximum.

“We congratulate all of them, thank them for being part of the show series and would welcome them back again with open arms anytime in the future.”

Other judges on the panel this year were musician Amie Boyd, former professional singer Paula Cannon, and Rob Sloan, joint creator of Rugby’s In the Round Theatre Group for young people.

Mike thanked event sponsors Urban & Civic, BBC CWR Radio, stage and event management company DCH Events, and technical partners DMX Stagetech.
