RUGBY Town are three points from safety after drawing 1-1 with Gresley Rovers in a bottom-of-the-table clash on Easter Monday.

Valley equalised on 34 minutes when Theo Rowe found the net after John King’s early strike put Gresley ahead at the Moat Ground.

That came after Rugby lost 2-0 at home to Lye Town with Valley now winless in their last seven league matches.

The results mean Valley sit bottom of the Northern Premier League Midlands table, three points from safety with four games left to play.

Gresley broke the deadlock on seven minutes when King curled a low free-kick past Tomasz Bukowski from a tight angle.

However, Valley drew level just past the half-hour mark when Rowe forced the ball home from close range after beating his man in the box.

Both teams missed big chances to win the game late on to leave both teams in the relegation zone.

Against Lye, Star Mayemba put the visitors in front on 11 minutes when he headed in Ben Billingham’s corner before Mikey Taylor spurned a glorious chance to equalise just before the break.

And Joe Palmer doubled Lye’s lead on 49 minutes as he turned home Nathan Kabeya’s cutback early in the second period.

Rugby are next in action at home to Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday, April 6 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
