A DRIVER who tried to dodge a fine after he was caught speeding in Warwickshire has been landed with a bill for over £1,000.

A 33-year-old man from Bilston in the West Midlands was fined £660, ordered to pay a £264 victim surcharge and £90 costs, and received six points on his licence.

He was charged with failing to give information relating to the identity of the driver of his Ford Focus which was caught speeding in Warwickshire last September.

He had claimed that his vehicle had been cloned – but police proved this was not the case and he was found guilty by Warwickshire Magistrates Court.

PC James Watson said: “It really wasn’t worth the effort to try and avoid the speeding ticket. Now this driver must pay over £1,000 in fines and costs and has gained six points on his licence.

“Whilst high speeders go straight to court, most speeding drivers are offered a speed awareness course. Those eligible can attend one every three years, or complete a conditional offer of a £100 fine and three points.

“If you are caught speeding, please comply with the road traffic legislation.”
