RUGBY Town played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with newly-promoted United Counties League Premier Division South side Hinckley in their latest pre-season outing.

Valley twice led through goals from Trey Charles and Hilton Arthur only for Hinckley to twice draw level at a rain-soaked Kirkby Road.

Still without a number of key players including Mikey Taylor, Chris Clements, Ryan Sahota, Barry Fitzharris, Liam Francis and Edwin Ahenkorah, Valley boss Carl Adams knew Hinckley would give his side a good workout.

The home side secured promotion as Midland Football League Division One champions last season and came into the game off the back of securing three successive six-goal victories.

Valley’s new forward signing Charles started the game in a patchwork midfield in a side which featured four trialists.

And Charles put Rugby ahead with a superbly worked goal after playing separate one-two’s on the edge of the penalty area with David Kolodynski and a trialist before firing a low shot into the back of the net.

Hinckley equalised after the break with a close-range goal from Luke Jones after good work out wide from Isa Abraham.

Valley reclaimed the lead when Charles chased down Paul Hathaway’s long kick, beat the Hinckley goalkeeper to the ball and allowed Arthur to finish into an empty net.

However, the home side ensured the game ended all square with their second equaliser as Josh Beeson fired a low powerful shot into the corner after bursting down the right.
