TIM Fenemore and his coxed quad crew achieved their target after finishing 26th in a strong field at the World Rowing Coastal Championships.
Fenemore, from Rugby, and his crew achieved a world ranking of 26th in the coxed quadruple sculls event competing against Olympic international rowers in Genoa, Italy.
The achievement is all the better given Fenemore and his crew come to a combined age of around 300 years-old and competed against significantly younger scullers.
Fenemore rows for Hollowell Scullers and rowed alongside clubmate Sean Sinclair, Jersey-based Ricky Rouille and Trieste’s Alberto Millo with Sue Huelin of Jersey volunteering her valuable experience at cox.
The crew had never rowed together before until arriving in Genoa and quickly adapted to their different rowing techniques. The quad were one of two boats representing Great Britain at the World Championships.
The qualifying heats took place under blue skies in 30 degree heat as the Great Britain crew accelerated away from Italian, South African and New Zealand crews to finish in a time of 18 minutes and 36 seconds over the 4km course.
And the crew then finished eighth in the B final as cox Huelin expertely steered the boat through rain and choppy waters to cross the line in 18 mins 58 secs.
Coastal rowing will feature at the Olympic Games for the first time at Los Angeles 2028.
The crew hope to compete at elite level for as long as possible.
