Care home residents spread goodwill and goodies to local heroes

LOCAL heroes were the grateful recipients of tasty gifts courtesy of a Rugby care home on International Day of Charity and Emergency Services Day.

The former saw Overslade House Care Home residents Marjorie, Betty, Peter and John go on a minibus trip to spread goodwill to good causes in the town in the form of cakes baked by Head Chef Corey Leake.

First they visited Adi Robinson, Service Manager at homelessness charity Hope4, followed by Catherine Rand at Rugby’s branch of the Salvation Army.

Then they made their way to The Myton Hospices’ Rugby site, where Manager Emily Wares, Nurse, Nicola Hughes and Receptionist Amanda Nixon gladly received their goodies.

Their last stop was the neighbouring St Cross Hospital, where hardworking staff were delighted with their snacks.

Throughout the day, Overslade House staff and residents enjoyed reminiscing about all of the charities they had supported over the years and all the fund-raising activities they had taken part in.

On Emergency Services Day, also known as 999 Day, Rugby Fire Station Red Watch were invited to visit the home – although they had to dash off to attend to an emergency.

Thankfully, firefighters Kieran, Nigel, Matt and Stuart came to visit residents the following day to talk about fire safety in the home, and receive cakes and goodie bags as a thank you for their time.
