Rugby writer's first novel takes readers on ‘alternative fairytale journey’

A WHIMSICAL writer from Rugby is ready to turn the page on a new chapter of her life with the publication of her first novel.

Ellie Tilley is looking forward to taking readers on an ‘alternative fairytale journey’ with her story Blackthorn and Beyond – The Sorcerer’s Redemption.

She describes it as a ‘gripping fantasy novel’ spanning a period of 150 years to present day, meaning to evoke the feel of a dark fairytale.

Born and raised in Warwickshire, she has loosely based the setting of her story on the woodland surrounding her childhood village, Binley Woods.

After graduating from Cardiff University with a degree in English Literature, Ellie moved back to the area that inspired her, and now dedicates her time to writing and reviewing fantasy fiction.

Ellie said: “Nature holds power, especially when we can use it to tell stories.

“I wanted to explore the secrets that nature can hold specifically in the realm of dark fairytales.

“My book spans one hundred and fifty years and the dark forest setting is the only constant throughout.

“The original fairy tales such as Hans Christian Anderson’s and the Brothers Grimm can be very macabre. Fairy tales have evolved and shaped our popular culture.

“I wanted to write something that would take the reader on an alternative fairytale journey to remind us of the power of nature and how events from hundreds of years ago can shape our lives today.”

Ellie is already penning the pages of her next novel, an underwater adventure series centred around the ocean and the mysteries of the deep, written in her fantasy fiction style.

Blackthorn and Beyond – The Sorcerer’s Redemption is released on October 28. Visit https://tinyurl.com/5xr9xp7h for more information.
