RUGBY Borough stretched their unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions with a 2-1 victory away at Godmanchester Rovers.

Goals either side of half time from Rio Henson and Brady Middleton secured an eighth successive away win in the league for Borough at Bearscroft Lane.

The result means Borough sit third in the United Counties League Premier Division South table, 10 points behind leaders Aylestone Park with three games in-hand.

Bottom of the table Rovers held Borough to a goalless draw in the reverse fixture at the end of September and pulled out all of the stops once again to try and deny the visitors all three points.

Borough dominated first-half proceedings and eventually broke the deadlock in injury time when new signing Henson took the ball past the stranded Rovers goalkeeper and finished into an empty net.

And Rugby doubled their lead just three minutes after the break as Middleton lobbed the ball into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area from Danny Fraser’s pass.

Godmanchester halved the deficit just before the hour mark as Thomas Wakley beat John Meadows when one-on-one.

However, Borough held on to maintain their perfect away record in the league this season.

Rugby host Coventry United in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Wednesday, November 20 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Kilsby Lane.
