RUGBY Borough suffered a heavy 5-0 home defeat against Heanor Town to exit the FA Vase at the third round stage.

A hat-trick from Sacha Markelic and further goals from Ethan Wiesztort and substitute Alex Seale saw Borough exit the competition Kilsby Lane.

Rugby missed the chance to reach the fourth round of the FA Vase for the first time in their history.

Heanor play at the same level as Rugby in the United Counties League Premier Division North.

And the visitors broke the deadlock on 25 minutes when Wiesztort fired a powerful effort into the bottom corner.

Heanor doubled their lead in first-half injury time as Markelic smashed a shot into the net via the underside of the crossbar from 20-yards out.

The visitors all but sealed their place in the next round seven minutes after the interval as Markelic took advantage of a defensive mix-up to score his second of the game.

Substitute Seale poked home Heanor’s fourth goal on 82 minutes with his first touch since coming off the bench.

And Markelic completed the scoring with his hat-trick goal three minutes later with a volley over Borough goalkeeper John Meadows.

Rugby are next in action against Hinckley AFC on Wednesday, December 11 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Kilsby Lane.
