RUGBY Town remain six points from safety after slipping to a narrow 1-0 defeat away at play-off chasing Coleshill Town.
Valley have now failed to win any of their last five matches as Sam Tye’s goal proved decisive at Pack Meadow.
And the result means Rugby sit 20th in the Northern Premier League Midlands relegation zone.
Coleshill had the better chances in the first half as Harry Craven headed a good chance wide.
And Valley goalkeeper Paul Hathaway then produced a stunning save from point-blank range to tip Jack Concannon’s powerful effort from close range onto the crossbar.
After the break, Silvano Obeng fired a shot well over the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area.
However, Coleshill eventually broke the deadlock on 56 minutes when Tye found the corner from 12-yards out after the home side pounced on Will Ronald’s loose pass.
Valley had chances to draw level as Jahvan Davidson-Miller and Keiron Berry both flashed shots wide of goal from tight angles in the penalty area.
The away side’s best opportunity to equalise saw Coleshill goalkeeper Tyrese Warmington make a save at full stretch to keep out Chris Clements’ free-kick from 25-yards out.
Coleshill had a chance to double their lead late on only for Hathaway to make another fine save to deny Alex McSkeane.
Rugby are next in action against Wellingborough Town on Saturday, February 1 with kick-off at 3pm at Butlin Road.
