More flooding support for Lutterworth area as council announces budget

Andy Morris 28th Feb, 2025   0

MORE flooding support has been announced for the Lutterworth area, as Harborough District Council (HDC) approves its budget for the year ahead.

The council has finalised its budget for 2025-26 and Medium-Term Financial Strategy for 2026-30 and approved an increase in HDC’s share of the Council Tax of £5.32 a year for an average Band D household – the maximum amount permitted by government.

An additional £100,000 has been allocated for short and longer term flooding support, with one-off payments of £500 to be made available to households in the district whose homes have suffered from internal flooding. More details of the scheme are due to be announced soon.

A new Climate Impact post is also being funded which will support schemes and initiatives to prevent flood risk, and work with local partners and flood wardens.

The council also committed to continue the £1million Community Grant Fund for 2025-26 and 2026-27.

Car parking charges in Lutterworth will remain unchanged, as will garden waste bin collection charges which stay at £61 for the third year running.

The council has also recommended investment into the annual residents’ newsletter, additional staff, a new waste fleet – including 27 refuse, recycling and food waste collection vehicles – and a number of ride-on mowers, street cleansing, and other vehicles.

HDC will buy three properties across the district to support temporary accommodation for residents in need.

It will also install 33 faster and easier-to-use car parking payment machines in Lutterworth and Market Harborough, and develop a community wellbeing programme for healthy lifestyle initiatives such as walks and activity sessions in community venues.
