RUGBY Borough overcame an early setback to romp to a 4-1 victory away at Hinckley AFC and maintain their play-off push.
The home side took an early lead courtesy of Matt Dawson’s own goal only for Gez McGahey and Thabang Dube to turn the game on its head before the break at Kirkby Road.
And further goals from David Kolodynski and Danny Fraser, the latter scoring from the penalty spot, sealed a convincing victory for the visitors.
The result means Rugby sit third in the United Counties League Premier Division South table, eight points clear of the chasing pack in the race for a play-off place.
Hinckley broke the deadlock after just seven minutes when Calum Flanagan’s initial effort deflected onto the crossbar and Dawson inadvertently headed the dropping ball into his own net.
However, Rugby equalised as the ball fell kindly into the path of McGahey who drilled home at the second attempt.
And Borough completed the turnaround in first-half injury time as McGahey squared the ball to Dube who tapped home.
The visitors stretched their lead after the break when Kolodynski finished Dube’s cross from close range.
And Fraser completed the scoring from the penalty spot after Flanagan committed a handball offence in the box.
Rugby are next in action against Eynesbury Rovers in the semi-finals of the UCL Cup on Saturday, March 22 with kick-off at 3pm at the Alfred Hall Memorial Ground.
