RUGBY Borough suffered a late 1-0 defeat against Eynesbury Rovers to exit the UCL Cup at the semi-final stage.
A late goal from Dan Hammer denied Borough a place in the final at Hall Road.
Rugby sit five places above Eynesbury in the United Counties League Premier Division South table.
The game’s only goal came nine minutes from time as Hammer fired home from six-yards out after Borough failed to deal with Lewis Lynn’s corner.
Rovers had Victor Osobu sent off in injury time but were unable to make the extra man count in the remaining minutes.
Borough made a bright start to the game as Danny Fraser fired a free-kick from the edge of the penalty area inches over the crossbar.
And Lewis Wilson then had a goal ruled out for offside before Thabang Dube shot straight at Eynesbury goalkeeper James Hoskins.
Eynesbury went close at the end of the first period as Jamal Batchilly volleyed over the bar.
Borough goalkeeper John Meadows then tipped Oliver Brookes’ header over the bar as Rovers increased the pressure after the break.
However, Hammer won the game for Eynesbury on 81 minutes as Borough missed the chance to reach the final.
Rugby are next in action against Northampton ON Chenecks on Saturday, March 29 with kick-off at 3pm at Old Northamptonians Sports Ground.
