ROB Yates impressed with bat and ball as Warwickshire CCC began the County Championship season with a draw against Sussex.
Yates scored 180 runs with the bat across both innings and also took three wickets and a catch at Edgbaston.
Warwickshire took 14 points from the fixture with Sussex claiming one more point than the Bears.
The Bears won the toss and put Sussex into bat as Ethan Bamber (4-105) took a couple of early wickets.
However, Tom Clark (140), James Coles (51) and John Simpson (181 not out) punished the Warwickshire attack.
Warwickshire eventually bowled Sussex out for 528.
In reply, the Bears put on 116 runs for their opening wicket as Alex Davies (66) and Yates (115) ensured the hosts made a strong start with the bat.
And Warwickshire’s middle order batters, Dan Mousley (63) and Ed Barnard (82), helped the Bears reach 454 all out.
Sussex looked to add to their lead as Tom Alsop (82 not out) top scored for the visitors in their second innings.
However, the Bears took wickets at regular intervals as Yates (3-79) impressed with the ball.
Sussex eventually declared on 313-7 on the final day, leaving Warwickshire a total of 388 to win in a minimum of 44 overs.
Yates (65 not out) continued his fine start to the season as the game ended in a draw with the Bears closing on 104-2 from 28 overs.
Warwickshire are next in action against Durham on Friday, April 11 with the game to begin at 11am at the Riverside Ground.
