Man charged with attempted murder following massive police raid on Warwickshire traveller site

AN ATTEMPTED murder suspect has been arrested and charged following a massive police raid on a traveller site near Ryton on Dunsmore.

More than 100 officers entered Woodside Park at around 5.30am yesterday (Thursday May 22), making eight arrests, seizing six vehicles and suspected stolen property together with thousands of pounds in cash.

James Galbraith, 28, of Limerick in Ireland, has been charged with attempted murder and threats to kill in connection with an incident which took place in Nuneaton on May 9, and has been remanded to appear before Warwick Crown Court on June 20.

Officers also arrested 44-year-old John Brown of Woodside Park for failing to appear in court for drug driving offences, and 52-year-old Andrew Poyser of Belmont Road in Coventry for failing to appear in court for a case of grievous bodily harm. Both have been remanded in custody.




A 30-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy who were arrested on suspicion of theft as part of an investigation into shop thefts worth around £25,000 have been released on bail while enquiries continue.

A 39-year-old man arrestedon suspicion of theft after suspected stolen goods were found in a caravan has been released on bail while enquiries continue.


Two men arrested for immigration offences have now been transferred to immigration services.

Police also safeguarded four people who they believe may be victims of criminal exploitation. They are now being supported by specialist officers.

Several vehicles suspected to be stolen, used in crime or having false documents were also seized.

Ch Supt Jon Belcher said: “This was a coordinated, multi-agency operation using specialist national resources.

“This came about because of ongoing concerns raised by our communities, and we want to send a clear message: we will not tolerate criminality. We will work with our partners to use every power and tactic available to pursue and disrupt offenders.

“We will work to protect and support law-abiding residents, both on the site and elsewhere, as we continue to pursue those who are involved in criminal behaviour.”
