VANSH Jani starred on his List A debut for Warwickshire although the Bears suffered a five-wicket defeat against Yorkshire in their One-Day Cup opener.
Jani blasted an impressive 82 runs from 92 balls after the Bears slumped to 38-7 in the 14th over at the North Marine Road ground.
The 20-year-old helped the Bears reach 137 all out with 10 boundaries while only three other Warwickshire players made double figures with the bat.
Yorkshire cruised to victory in reply as the hosts reached the required total with five wickets to spare in the 33rd over.
The home side won the toss and elected to bowl on a tricky pitch and took two wickets in the second over.
Warwickshire found themselves on 1-2 after Ben Cliff (5-46) removed both Rob Yates (1) and Zen Malik (0).
Ed Barnard (5) and Hamza Shaikh (0) departed quickly with the Bears in trouble on 12-4.
Wickets continued to tumble as Kai Smith (11), Alex Davies (15) and Jake Lintott (0) all fell to leave Warwickshire on 38-7.
However, Jani, batting at number seven propelled the Bears to 137 all out on his List A debut for the club.
Warwickshire needed quick wickets in reply and removed Adam Lyth (6) in the seventh over.
However, Imam-ul-Haq (55) made a half-century while Will Luxton (25) and James Wharton (17) chipped away at the total.
Despite the best efforts of Michael Booth (3-29), George Hill (20 not out) and Harry Duke (10 not out) guided Yorkshire to victory.
Warwickshire are next in action against Northamptonshire Steelbacks on Sunday, August 10 with the game to start at 11am at Rugby School.
