LEO Stone scored a hat-trick as Rugby Borough moved top of the table with a 4-2 victory against Loughborough Students.
Stone netted the club’s first treble at Step Four after an own goal drew Borough level early in the first half at Kilsby Lane.
The result means Rugby sit top of the Northern Premier League Midlands table having played a game more than every other team in the division bar Loughborough.
Loughborough broke the deadlock after just six minutes as Hussein Issa finished Oliver Downs cross from close range.
However, the home side drew level on 17 minutes when a Loughborough defender sliced Harry Sawyer’s cross into his own net.
And Borough completed the turnaround on 29 minutes as Stone flicked the ball into the air and volleyed a shot into the corner of the net.
Stone grabbed his second of the game on 63 minutes and completed his hat-trick 10 minutes later to put the game to bed.
The visitors reduced the deficit late on after a slip in the Borough defence but the hosts comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to move top of the table.
Rugby are next in action against St Neots Town on Tuesday, August 19 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Premier Plus Stadium.
