WARWICKSHIRE missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the One-Day Cup following a 21-run home defeat against Sussex.

The Bears could only manage 258 all out in reply to Sussex’s 277-9 in a game reduced to 48 overs per side at Edgbaston.

And the result saw Warwickshire finish fourth in Group B, four points behind Yorkshire, Somerset and Middlesex.

Sussex won the toss and elected to bat as Tom Clark (82) top scored for the visitors.

Key middle order contributions from Danny Lamb (42) and Bertie Foreman (30) helped Sussex reach 277-9 at the end of their 48 overs.

Bears bowler Oliver Hannon-Dalby (3-53) starred with the ball while Tazeem Ali (2-47) and Jake Lintott (2-53) took a couple of wickets apiece.

In reply, Warwickshire looked well-placed to mount a charge for victory as Ed Barnard (82) and Alex Davies (74) both scored half-centuries.

Davies departed with the Bears on 228-5 in the 37th over with only Kai Smith (21) and Ali (13 not out) able to score double figures of the home side’s remaining batters.

The hosts lost their final six wickets for the addition of just 30 runs to also miss out on a semi-final place in the process.
