HAROLD Pinter’s most performed play The Caretaker brings a battle of wits to Leamington’s Loft Theatre.

In an attic at the top of an empty four-storey house full of junk lives kindly but vulnerable Aston. One day he gives shelter to Davies, an ageing, filthy down-and-out.

Davies quickly settles in, calmly making himself at home until Mick arrives on the scene. He is Aston’s brother and a far more menacing character.

A battle of wits begins as the brothers seek to manipulate the old man to their own respective ends – but Davies has his own agenda and not everything is as it seems.

Director Gordon Vallins said: “This extraordinary tragi-comedy, with its unique voice and three remarkable characters, is intriguing, mischievous, scary and funny.

“There is uncertainty, the whiff of danger, fun and alarm in the unexpected. Each character is trapped in their own individual world and each has his own agenda.”

Tim Willis takes on the role of Davies, with Rod Wilkinson as Aston and Tom O’Connor as his brother Mick.

The Caretaker runs from February 26 to March 7
