FROM The Jam stop off in Coventry and Leamington as they mark the 40th anniversary of landmark album All Mod Cons.

Ex-The Jam bassist Bruce Foxton, vocalist and guitarist Russell Hastings, drummer Mike Randon, and keyboard man Andy Fairclough play Coventry Empire on October 19, and also take to the stage at Leamington Assembly on November 15 as part of the All Mod Cons – 40th Anniversary Tour.

The album released in 1978 launched The Jam on the road to becoming the biggest band in Britain.

But their third album was not without its difficulties. Paul Weller was initially suffering writer’s block, and the initial demos were rejected by their record label Polydor.

Back home to Woking they went to re-group, and they returned with the album many fans regard as their finest.

Weller-penned singles such as Down in The Tube Station at Midnight and A Bomb in Wardour Street, together with Kinks’ cover David Watts, sit alongside the likes of Mr Clean, Billy Hunt, To Be Someone, The Place I Love and In The Crowd.

From the Jam have toured relentlessly over the past 11 years and have played almost 1,000 shows in the UK since their inception in 2007.

Speaking ahead of the forthcoming tour, Foxton said: “The energy in rehearsals is great and we’re really looking forward to getting back on the road.”

As well as songs from All Mod Cons, fans can expect other Jam classics including chart-toppers such as Going underground, Start and Town Called Malice.

Visit www.coventryempire.co.uk for tickets and further details of the Coventry gig, and likewise www.leamingtonassembly.com for the Leamington show.
