Hot stuff at Birmingham Hippodrome as the Full Monty returns

Rugby Editorial 6th Nov, 2018   0

THE FULL Monty has brought a dose of hot stuff to Birmingham’s Hippodrome for the last time.

The star-studded cast delivered an impressive performance of the show telling the tale of former Sheffield steelworkers turned strippers.

But this was much more than just a striptease.

There is a heartfelt story at the centre of this award-winning adaptation by Simon Beaufoy, of a dad wanting to continue seeing his son.

It is a triumph and a lighthearted, hilarious comedy done well with a nod to difficult subjects such as sexuality and obesity.

But it is the last time the show will be going on tour, so if you want to see it in Birmingham now is your chance.

Gary Lucy made the part of Gaz his own – although his Sheffield accent sometimes leaves something to be desired and is difficult to understand – while the rest of the cast impressed with acting, comedy and dancing skills.

Fellow actors include Andrew Dunn of Dinnerladies fame, Louis Emerick from Coronation Street, Joe Gill who starred in Emmerdale, Kai Owen of Torchwood and James Redmond who featured in Casualty and Hollyoaks.

And if Lucy’s accent leaves any doubt on whereabouts in the country we are the set will certainly help clear it up. The design features an imposing, abandoned steelworks and the inside of local clubs. For the few who haven’t seen the hit film, it is clear we are in the ‘Steel City’ of Sheffield.

The show ends with a performance at a local club to a packed out audience.

And yes, they do go The Full Monty.

The show runs until Saturday (November 10). Tickets cost from £18.
