Booking system stays in place for visitors to Coventry tip

A BOOKING system for residents to use the Coventry tip has been set up by the city council.

Following the reopening of the tip on London Road on Monday (May 18), the council is maintaining its appointments-only use of the household waste centre.

Only cars are permitted to enter the tip, excluding vans and trailers.

Users also have to bring proof of their residency in Coventry.

A spokesman for Coventry Council advised: “To minimise traffic outside the centre, we’re asking that you don’t arrive at the site more than 10 minutes before your allocated time.

“Once inside, all visitors must follow the social distancing guidelines. Visitors must always be 2m (6ft) apart at all times. There will be signs to help visitors remember. In order to reduce the number of people and make this process easier, only one person per car is allowed onsite.

“Our staff will be on hand to help guide visitors and to remind them of their social distancing obligations. However due to these obligations they will not be able to help visitors unload their vehicles. Anyone who doesn’t follow the rules or is aggressive to our staff will be removed from the site.”

Residents can also use the appointments system to book the council’s bulky waste collection service.

Coun Patricia Hetherton, Cabinet Member for City Services, said: “I am pleased that we can now reopen the Household Waste Recycling Centre on London Road, following the recent changes to Government’s guidelines on essential travel.

“However, I must stress that this pandemic is still ongoing and it’s vital that you only make a visit to the Centre if it’s necessary. If you are able to store your waste at home until your next household collection, please do so.

“We’re expecting the site to be extremely busy, which is why we’re asking you to book in advance. This booking system is going to help us keep the numbers at a manageable level and allow those onsite to be as safe as possible.

“Your safety and that of our staff is our number one priority, that’s why it’s so important that you observe social distancing on site and listen to the guidance given by our staff

“I want to thank the Centre’s staff for all their hard work during these difficult times and ask that residents continue to respectfully support them so they can continue to keep the Centre open.”
