A CHARITY in south Warwickshire has thanked a school which is making thousands of face visors for local care staff.
A team of four teachers from the design & technology department at King Henry VIII School in Coventry have now made more than 7,000 visors to support the health and social care sectors amid the coronavirus crisis.
They are volunteering their time to do their bit using a template and donated materials to make as many visors as possible to fill the gap in stock and demand.
Among those to benefit are Heart of England Mencap which supports people with learning disabilities across south Warwickshire.
The visors for HofE Mencap are being distributed to care staff across the charity’s services in Stratford, Warwick, Leamington, Shipston, Studley and Southam.
Chief executive Helena Wallis said: “We’re so grateful to the team at King Henry VIII for volunteering their time to do something which really makes a huge difference to care organisations like ours.
“Our staff are out there continuing to provide critical care in our community – and we are committed to supporting our care heroes and doing everything we can to keep them safe.”
The King Henry VIII team are working with schools across the country to support other design and technology teams doing the same emergency PPE production and signpost care organisations in need. They have also been given a big boost by two local companies – Frederick Cooper of Birmingham are assisting with laser cutting, while Amtico of Coventry are producing components and have a dedicated warehouse space where they are helping with assembly.
Design and technology teacher Rob Phillips said: “It’s just our way of doing something to help.”
