DAN Sambell will be hoping it’s third time lucky at the National Hospital Radio Awards next month.

The Coventry Hospital Radio presenter, who lives in Rugby, was named in the top five in the Best Male Presenter category last year, and received the bronze award in 2016.

The awards are organised by the Hospital Broadcasting Association, a national charity which supports and promotes hospital broadcasting in the UK, and recognises the best and most creative individuals and teams in hospital radio.

Dan said: “While I’ve been shortlisted before, I was still really shocked when I found out, as there are some great presenters across the UK. The shortlist gets announced at midnight on New Year’s, so it was a great way to start the year.

“I have been into radio since I was little, so radio has always been in my blood. It’s my passion and it’s what I love doing.”

Dan also works in the industry as a producer and one of his biggest passions is being behind the microphone.

“Monday is one of my favourite parts of the week because I get to go on air with Coventry Hospital Radio. It’s my chance to interact with patients and talk about subjects that matter to them.”

“I want to thank all the Coventry Hospital Radio team as well as all the listeners who have tuned in over the last year. We are all volunteers and everything we do is aimed at helping to brighten up patients’ stays in hospital.”

Kristine Davies, head of voluntary services at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, was full of praise for Dan.

“I’m so proud Dan has been nominated for a third year in a row – it’s a fantastic achievement and he really deserves it.

“He is part of a hardworking and dedicated team of volunteers who regularly give up their free time to entertain our patients.”

The award ceremony take place in Windsor on March 24.
